Information for visiting researchers

Visiting researchers and scholars are always welcome! All year round, the institute hosts a great number of international guests from all around the world, e. g. from Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Finland, Great Britain, Greece, Hungary, India, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Russia, Serbia and Montenegro, Spain, South Korea, Sweden, Taiwan and Turkey. For a list of our current guests, please click here.

The institute’s library offers long-term working desks for the work on research topics in the fields of international private law, procedural law and comparative law which relate to research projects of the institute. If you are interested in pursuing a research visit at the institute, please send your application to the institute’s secretary, Ms. Tauber. As there are only a limited number of working desks available, we advise you to apply as early as possible.

Please include your curriculum vitae, a letter of recommendation and a short summary of your research topic  in your application. The summary can be written in either German, English or French and should not exceed one page. It should also outline how the use of the institute’s library would benefit your research. Please note that a basic knowledge of the German language is required in order to make optimum use of the institute's resources. If your application is approved, we also appreciate your willingness to give a short presentation of your research in front of the institute’s staff.

The directors as well as the institute’s staff look forward to your application.
